That was the challenge facing FusionSite Services on a major construction project in Aiken, South Carolina. The site required crews to service almost 200 units seven days a week, creating constant pressure to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of cleanliness and customer service.
As the project grew, so did the demands on the equipment. Frequent dump trips were cutting into productive time, muddy job site conditions made cleaning more difficult, and staffing remained an ongoing concern. Like many portable sanitation providers, FusionSite was feeling the impact of a nationwide shortage of CDL-qualified drivers.
The company needed a way to move more waste, carry more supplies, and complete routes faster—all without requiring a CDL operator.
That’s when FusionSite partnered with Matthews Motors to build a truck designed specifically for their needs.
The solution was a custom-configured Hino non-CDL portable restroom service truck featuring approximately 1,500 gallons of waste capacity and 500 gallons of fresh water capacity. The truck was equipped with a Masport HD4 vacuum pump, chosen for its reliability, readily available replacement parts, and nationwide support network.
To improve cleaning efficiency, the truck was also outfitted with a DC10 water pump system and integrated high-pressure washer. The layout was designed with serviceability in mind, allowing operators to access pumps, valves, and other components without extensive disassembly. Additional exterior toolbox storage created dedicated space for paper products, soap, and other supplies.
The extra storage delivered an unexpected benefit.
“With the added storage, we don’t have to use the cab as a supply area anymore,” said Andrew Munekata, manager for FusionSite Services, which operates as Portable Services, Inc. “That allows us to add a full-time helper so one person can pump while the other restocks and cleans units, which saves a significant amount of time on large job sites.”
The impact was immediate.
The increased tank capacity reduced dump trips from as many as one-and-a-half trips per day to approximately one. That translates to an estimated two to three hours saved each day in travel time, offloading, and paperwork.
The ability to operate with a two-person crew further improved productivity, while the integrated pressure washer allowed operators to clean units while refilling handwash stations, reducing the number of separate tasks required at each stop.
According to Munekata, the truck has performed so well that it is now serving as a test platform for features FusionSite may incorporate into future fleet builds.
